Fire Alarm Inspection in Austin, Texas

Avenger Security provides commercial fire alarm inspection, testing and documentation for businesses, property managers and facility teams throughout Austin and Central Texas. Our work is performed through appropriately licensed personnel and is documented so the customer understands what passed, what failed and what should happen next.

A contractor's inspection is different from an Austin Fire Department inspection. We test and document the fire alarm system; the Austin Fire Marshal's Office performs regulatory, acceptance and maintenance inspections within its authority.

Commercial fire alarm inspection services

  • Recurring inspection and functional testing.
  • Fire alarm control panel, annunciator and power-supply testing.
  • Smoke, heat, duct and manual initiating-device testing.
  • Horn, strobe, speaker and notification-appliance testing.
  • Waterflow, valve supervisory and other monitored fire-protection interfaces.
  • Battery, charging circuit and standby-power review.
  • Alarm, supervisory and trouble-signal verification with the monitoring center.
  • Deficiency documentation and corrective recommendations.
  • Third-party compliance reporting when required by the AHJ.

How often is testing required?

The required frequency depends on the equipment, applicable edition of NFPA 72, adopted fire code, approved plans and local requirements. A system may contain items with annual, semiannual, quarterly, monthly or other inspection and testing intervals. We review the system and jurisdiction rather than applying one blanket interval to every component.

The City of Austin tracks commercial fire-protection-system compliance and requires applicable third-party inspection verification through The Compliance Engine. Other Central Texas jurisdictions may use different portals or submission procedures.

What we inspect

The exact scope is based on the installed system. Common components include:

  • Conventional and addressable fire alarm control panels.
  • Manual pull stations, smoke detectors and heat detectors.
  • Duct detectors and remote indicators.
  • Monitor, control, relay and supervisory modules.
  • Notification appliance circuits and remote power supplies.
  • Sprinkler waterflow and valve-tamper inputs.
  • Kitchen-hood, elevator, HVAC and access-control interfaces where applicable.
  • Cellular, IP and supported dual-path fire communicators.

Clear deficiency reporting

A failed device does not automatically mean the entire system requires replacement. We identify the observed condition, affected equipment and recommended next action. Repairs, programming, device replacement and larger corrective projects are quoted separately from the inspection unless included in the written scope.

Required labels and reports are applied or issued according to Texas rules and the condition found. Final acceptance remains with the authority having jurisdiction.

Our inspection process

  1. Confirm the panel, system type, monitoring account and available records.
  2. Coordinate testing, occupant notification and system impairment procedures.
  3. Place the account on test and verify receipt of required signals.
  4. Test the included equipment and interfaces.
  5. Restore the system and monitoring account to normal service.
  6. Issue the inspection record and submit compliance documentation when required.

Inspection pricing and service visits

Fire alarm inspections are billable professional services. Pricing depends on the system, device count, interfaces, records and reporting requirements. Existing-system troubleshooting that falls outside the inspection scope is billed separately. Basic diagnostic service is $95.00 after the first hour. Additional work and parts are quoted according to the required scope.

For a new installation or new monitoring service, we can provide an initial site visit and up to one hour of consultation at no cost. That consultation does not include a required inspection, certification or diagnostic repair work.
