Installing the communicator is only part of the work. The fire alarm control unit, communicator, receiver, central-station automation, account profile, zone descriptions, and emergency call list must agree. Fire Alarm Cellular and IP Communicator FAQs

Can a cellular communicator replace fire alarm telephone lines?

Often, yes. The communicator must be listed for the application, properly connected and supervised, supported by the central station, and accepted for the project. The existing panel and communication method must be evaluated first.

Does switching the building phones to VoIP affect the fire alarm?

It can. A legacy fire alarm dialer should not be assumed to work reliably through hosted voice, cable telephone, or other converted phone services. Test the actual alarm communication before removing or changing existing lines.

Do I need to replace the entire fire alarm panel?

Not necessarily. If the panel is functional, supported, testable, and capable of providing the required signals through an approved connection, a communicator-only upgrade may be appropriate.

Is cellular-only communication the same as dual path?
