DSC PowerSeries PC1616, PC1832 and PC1864 Upgrades
The DSC PowerSeries PC1616, PC1832 and PC1864 are legacy professional alarm panels that remain installed in many Texas homes and businesses. When the panel, wiring and field devices are in usable condition, a communicator upgrade and professional reprogramming may be more practical than replacing the entire system.

Alarm.com SEM compatibility
Alarm.com’s DSC System Enhancement Module supports compatible PC1616, PC1832 and PC1864 panels. DSC identifies PowerSeries LTE SEM compatibility with panel version 4.2 or later; the exact board revision and current module requirements must be verified before equipment is ordered.
The SEM becomes the primary communication path and can add compatible Alarm.com app features, cellular reporting, user management and event history. A traditional telephone line is not used as a supported backup path with the SEM configuration.
Why retain a legacy PowerSeries panel?
- Existing hardwired contacts and motion detectors may remain useful.
- Zone expansion and partitioning may already match the property.
- The metal enclosure, transformer, keypad wiring and siren circuit may be reusable.
- A communicator upgrade can remove dependence on an obsolete telephone line.
- Users can gain compatible app control without replacing every field device.
Reuse is appropriate only when the equipment is supported, accessible, correctly supervised and in good operating condition.
What a takeover review includes
- Panel model, firmware and installer-code access.
- Keypad and expander compatibility.
- Zone labeling, end-of-line supervision and device condition.
- Battery, transformer, auxiliary power and siren operation.
- Communicator model and network availability.
- User codes, partitions and opening or closing requirements.
- Alarm, trouble and restoration testing at the central station.
Monitoring prices
- $19.99 per month for standard residential basic monitoring.
- $29.99 per month for compatible residential Alarm.com interactive service.
- $39.99 per month for standard commercial Alarm.com burglar monitoring.
Equipment, installation, permits and repair work are separate unless included in a written proposal. Recurring monitoring uses a 90-day cancellation notice, and first and last month may be collected at activation.
When replacement is the better choice
Replacement may be more practical when the panel revision is incompatible, installer access cannot be recovered, circuit damage is extensive, parts are unavailable, expansion is insufficient or the customer needs features the legacy platform cannot support.
For new installations, Avenger Security generally recommends a current professional platform such as DSC PowerSeries Neo rather than starting with a discontinued legacy panel.
Access control, video and fire alarm
A compatible burglar alarm can coordinate with access-control and cloud-video workflows, but each system retains its own operating and service requirements. Commercial fire alarm is a separate regulated system and must not be represented as a feature of a PowerSeries burglar-alarm panel.
