Fire alarm monitoring is one part of the life-safety program. Monitoring does not replace required inspection, testing, maintenance, permitting, deficiency correction or acceptance by the Authority Having Jurisdiction.

1. The fire alarm control panel sends a programmed event through its approved communication path.
2. The supervising station receives the signal and identifies the account, event type and programmed point information.
3. The operator follows the approved account instructions and applicable response procedures.
4. Fire-department notification is requested when the received event and account instructions require dispatch.
5. The event and operator activity are recorded in the monitoring account history.

Communication availability, equipment condition, account programming, AHJ requirements and emergency-response procedures can affect the final outcome. No monitoring service can guarantee transmission, dispatch or emergency-response time.

Typical monitoring pricing

Standard commercial fire alarm monitoring is typically approximately $70–$75 per month, depending on the communicator, account requirements and approved scope. First and last month may be collected at activation. Equipment, installation, permits, inspections, repairs and special reporting requirements are separate unless the written proposal says otherwise.

Any communicator promotion or minimum service term will be identified in the written proposal before activation.

Monitoring, inspection and compliance are separate

Commercial fire alarm systems may also require recurring inspection and third-party compliance reporting. Austin properties may be subject to reporting through BRYCER/The Compliance Engine when required by the City of Austin.
